Building better futures for young people in Molesey

We believe in preparing young people with skills for life.

Our members develop the skills they need to be happy, resilient and active citizens and leaders, making a positive impact in the Molesey community and wider society.

They develop character skills like resilience, initiative and empathy; employability skills such as leadership, teamwork and problem solving; and practical skills like cooking and first aid.

Our waiting list

Everything we do at 1st Molesey allows young people to experience adventure, or helps them learn new skills.

Because we are one of the most popular groups in the area we have to operate a waiting list. At 1st Molesey, we operate one waiting list for all of our sections (Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers). This means that if your child misses out on a place at Squirrels or Beavers, they’ll remain on the waiting list for Cubs, and so on.

We take in as many children as we can each term and run our sections at full capacity. Despite this, unfortunately not all young people will be offered a place at 1st Molesey.

It is never too early to apply to our waiting list!

Please click the button below and fill in the form with your child’s details.

Your involvement

The Scout Group is led by a team of volunteers and all parents/guardians of our members are involved in the running of the group in some way.

It’s great fun and between us we make a massive difference to the lives of young people in Molesey.

You’ll be asked to help at section meetings at least once a term and support the group in other ways.

For example:

  • By helping to organise fundraising events
  • By helping to maintain our boats, equipment and Scout Hut
  • By helping more regularly as a section assistant or leader

Volunteering and the waiting list

Our activities at 1st Molesey have never been more popular and the waiting list continues to grow.

If you are able to commit to an adult role we would be able to offer your child the next available place in one of our sections after you have started helping.

Turning up on a Wednesday evening is a wonderful part of my week. The leaders make it exciting and my favourite activities are cooking, kayaking and when we visit Polyapes, a secluded area of woodland and open fields to play games, build campfires and do night walks in the woods!

George (age 11)

It’s not just for boys

We have girls in all sections at 1st Molesey. In fact, over a third of our member are girls.

The Scouts is a diverse movement and membership is open to all those who share our values.

Children with additional needs

We pride ourselves on our inclusivity and do our best to make sure everyone can take part.

The Scout Association is committed to being inclusive of all young people, regardless of ability or disability and has a clear Equal Opportunities Policy.

All Scout groups will make reasonable adjustments wherever possible to support the inclusion of young people with disabilities or additional needs. Scouting is delivered by adult volunteers and is not a statutory provision; however we have systems of supporting volunteers with inclusion.

Please let us know if your child requires additional support so we can meet with you to discuss their individual needs. We will always do our best to ensure they can participate, but we do need to discuss this with you beforehand.

Making activities accessible

Membership subscriptions are due monthly, on the first day of the month, for all 12 months of the year.

The costs are as follows:

  • Squirrels and Beavers – £20
  • Cubs – £21
  • Scouts and Explorers – £23

Young people should never miss out on an opportunity because the cost of taking part is a challenge. We maintain a discretionary hardship fund that any member of the group can apply to for support with the cost of membership subscriptions or the cost of key programme camps and events.

Keeping young people safe

Wherever we go and whatever we do, we put young people’s safety and wellbeing first.

Young people thrive in secure surroundings, at home and away. Wherever we go, we’re serious about keeping them safe.
